BESTIVAL ANNOUNCES SOME VERY SPECIAL ACTS
Bestival.jpg

MUST-SEE PERFORMANCES FROM
The xx / Fever Ray (UK Festival Exclusive)

VERY SPECIAL GUEST...
Richie Hawtin presents PLASTIKMAN LIVE

Staying on course to deliver the closest thing to festival nirvana this side of rock n roll heaven, Rob da Bank and the Bestival crew are just too excited to be able to hold in the latest mega-mungus line-up announcement for our seventh outing any longer. With the likes of Dizzee Rascal, Flaming Lips, Hot Chip, LCD Sound System and Gil Scott Heron already out of the besti-bag, we have got some absolute belters joining the bill for the first Robin Hill Country Park adventure of the teenies!

Rob da Bank says: 'OK, check this out for a triple whammy - my joint favourite band of last year The xx playing what will be a very rare UK festival appearance on our very own Isle of Wight, the audio-visual phenomenon that is Fever Ray with her ONLY UK festival this year and to cap it all one of the most important electronic wizards about, Richie Hawtin bringing his Plastikman guise to the Big Top. Selfishly these are three of the most played artists round the da Banks’ at the moment and if you don't already own all the music get it now and get ready for September!'

Winners of a truck load of coveted accolades, including The Guardian and Rough Trade Shops’ Album of the Year, for their sublime debut album The xx will be taking the ferry to the Isle of Wight to blow you away with one of only three UK festival appearances this year that will see them baring the spellbinding lyrical interplay and evocative riffs that have deservedly made the masses fall head over heels for them. Aside from blowing us all away in the Big Top on Friday the band will also be loading Saam Farahmand’s groundbreaking, super-future 'xx: a Sculpture of the Album'; a 3D physical interpretation of their music, into their van. Utilising film, light and sound via three specially created audio-visual units this will play all weekend in Bestival’s very own permanent cinema onsite ... and you won't see it at any other UK festies!

Fever Ray aka Karin Dreijer Andersson took time out as one half of lauded cult Swedish duo The Knife  to release one of 2009s most incredible and beguiling albums, so were over the moon that she will be making a UK festival exclusive appearance at Bestival this year. Famed for mixing off-the-wall performance art with her truly stunning vocal stylings and a penchant for dressing up - check the footage of her accepting an award at a recent Swedish awards ceremony here - Fever Rays appearance is certain to be unlike anything youve ever witnessed before.

Bestivals late night contingent will be ecstatic to witness a solid gold techno deity if ever there was one as Richie Hawtin presents PLASTIKMAN LIVE in one of only two English shows. Were anticipating a mind-meltingly good time as the visionary master explores the extreme realms of interactive musical communion re-imagining the 18-year history of his peerless PLASTIKMAN material. Everything is reinterpreted through the capabilities of modern technology as Hawtin explores the connections between sight, sound and shared experience, incorporating state of the art visual architecture, interactive technology and more to be revealed. Challenging the senses and stimulating the deepest party sensibilities, PLASTIKMAN is legendary and we just cant wait to see him. Its going to be massive.

And don’t forget! Coming soon we have the grand reveal of our fantastic fancy dress theme and some truly jaw-meets-floor type performers that we guarantee will make you do a little dance of joy when you find out who they are! So, keep checking http://www.bestival.net for all the action.

FROM THE MET LOUNGE, PETERBOROUGH
Quick update as we're looking to fill a couple of slots this week plus helping out our friends at Art and Soul

Thursday 18th Feb - Art and Soul need another band for their weekly 'solstice show' at .... you guessed it, The solstice in Peterborough. doors are at 8pm and its an 18+ venue. If you are available then please contact Mel at Art and Soul at dimension6000@aol.com directly - just tell her we sent you!

And if Thursday is no good then we still need one more band to join Rev 78 and The Limits here at The Met here on Friday 19th Feb - I would have thought that being half term then the younger bands on our database would be up for a show - especially as its open to 14+. doors at 8.30pm. If you are available and want the slot please get back to us asap

And we need another band here on Friday 5th March to play alongside The Beautiful Sleazy & The Dharma

AND - 2nd plug for this show
Thursday 25th March - touring show KYOTO DRIVE
- 2 slots open -

Album Release tour in March! Debut album "This Is All We Ever Wanted" will be released Feb 23rd 2010 Via Engineer Records(UK) & Pacific Ridge Records
Band have played support to Funeral for a Friend, Kids In Glass Houses, Go Audio, Attack! Attack!, Fightstar, Flood of Red, Twin Atlantic & more as well as getting a slot on the Birmingham Slam Dunk/Vans Off The Wall Night! £5 adv ticket

AND Sunday/Monday 4th/5th April
We've been asked to help out an agent with a show from the
following artiste

MANNA
- Fantastic new act from Finland; think PJ Harvey meets the Yeah Yeah Yeahs! She's a big deal over there, featuring on magazine covers, etc. New single due in March, going through Cargo in the UK;  www.myspace.com/mannamariam
As you can see if you go to her myspace page she is quite popular in Finland and the record company here in the UK have the right people in place to make things happen here. I need 2 good local bands who have followings that will come and support the artiste and the show,

The 2 dates I've been asked to try and get a bill together is Easter Sunday 4th April or Easter Monday 5th April - appreciate they're not the best days of the week but everybody is off work on both days and if your following is student based then they'll be home for Easter. - update - I have 1 band provisionally penciled in to help support on this show so still looking for a 2nd band
Tickets will be around the £5 mark

AND FINALLY!!, I've had 8 bands so far asking me if there's an opening slot available on the Example show at The Cresset on the 26th May (or even the show at Cambridge on the 3rd June).
Now,lets be honest about things - YES, we would all like to support a 'big' band when they come to our town BUT, every 'big' band was a small band once and we need your help on these shows when we're trying to build up an artiste.
- IF,you help out on these shows then if we get the chance to bring the artiste back and IF we do get chance to add a local band to the bill we'll put forward the bands to the headline bands agent that have helped
out before.
Cheers
Steve

2010 Riverside Festival

Final Call for Bands and Artists to apply to perform at the 2010 Riverside Festival

Organisers of the popular not-for-profit Stamford Riverside Festival are making a final call for Bands and Artists to apply to perform at Riverside Festival 2010 you only have till the 28th February to get your applications in to the festival organisers.

Permission has been granted by Stamford Town Council for the festival to use the site on the Meadows in the centre of Stamford over two days this year Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th July, and the festival organisers are now working hard to finalise arrangements with all the relevant statutory agencies to get the other necessary permissions needed in order for the event to take place on these dates.

In the meantime the plans call for lot’s of new activities, stages and entertainment to be featured at the festival this year and the overall aim is to provide great entertainment for the whole community with something for everyone from toddlers to pensioners and organisers are pressing ahead with arrangements for the two day spectacular.

Festival Director Cathy Sandbach said ‘We want to stage our best ever programme of music, arts and entertainment to mark our 10th Anniversary celebrations. To help us to do this we are particularly keen to hear from performers who would like to appear on the following stages :

Riverside Stage (Saturday) - wide variety of rock, progressive, pop, alternative pop, blues, funk, etc.

New for 2010 - Riverside Stage (Sunday) - world music, classical, choral, blues, jazz, swing and progressive music etc.

Marquee Stage (Saturday only) - indie, emo, metal, rock, thrash, nu and old skool punk music etc.

Acoustic Stage (Sunday only) - for acts with acoustic, folk, jazz, world and blues influences.etc.

New for 2010 - Singer Songwriters Stage (Saturday only) - this stage will be dedicated to soloists and duets who have written and produced their own music.

New for 2010 - Community Stage - we want to provide our local groups, schools and colleges with an opportunity to perform at the festival. We are very keen to hear from local dance and drama groups, as well as choirs and other performers particularly from local amateur dramatic societies, schools and colleges. In fact any community based organisations who want to perform to a larger audience.’
In addition we will once again be running our very popular Buskers Stage on Saturday and Sunday this is a much more informal affair and performers can just turn up at the festival and apply to book a 20 minutes slot to perform.

With more than 17,500 people attending last years festival on one day alone and footfall across the day of more than 46,000 people the festival provides an opportunity to perform in front of a large audience that is not to be missed.
